Education and training

Counselling and training courses for persons with diabetes are held around the year at the Diabetes Centre. The Diabetes Centre in Tampere is the national headquarters of the Finnish Diabetes Association.

The courses at the Diabetes Centre are attended by 1 700 - 1 800 people each year. These 1 200 - 1 300 are people with diabetes and their family members, and 400 - 500 are health care professionals.

Education and further training are also organized for health care professionals. Several seminars and basic and advanced courses are held each year. Tailor-made education and counselling are also offered for health care professionals.

The staff responsible for courses, training and education at the Diabetes Centre includes two physicians, five nurses, two nutritionists, two psychologists, a chiropodist, a physical activities instructor, an exercise planner, kitchen personnel, two course secretaries, an education manager and an education secretary.
